Abbot (Khenpo) Geshe Tsering Nyerna la

Geshe Tsering Nyerna is from the nice place of Drak Yabsal in Kham, Tibet, from the humble family known as Dagnyer. Geshela was born in 1970 to father Chonga Tsering and mother Tashi Yangzom. When he was young he went to primary and middle school then in 1982 when he turned 13 years old he joined Binya monastery.

There Geshela memorised sadhanas such as Guhyasamaja tantra as well as the ritual practices and in accord with the rules of the monastery gave all the required memorisation examinations on these.

At the age of 18 he took the vow of a novice monk and acquired the Dharma name Denba Khedrup and began studying philosophy for a few years until 1990 when he left Tibet for India to join Drepung Loseling monastic university; here he studied the five major philosophical texts under the 100th Ganden throne holder and many learned geshes.

In 1991 Geshe la received full ordination from His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Later in 2008 he completed the 5 major texts and in that same year in accordance with a request from the Drepung Loseling Monastery dharma center at Taiwanese, he was sent by the monastery to teach them buddhism and Tibetan language for just under two years which he did to the best of his ability.

Then in 2011 at Drepung Loseling he sat for his Geshe degree and from 2012 in accordance with the instruction of the Great Abbot of Loseling, he worked for the Gelug Organisation committee overseeing the Gelug monasteries for two years. After that he held the position of secretary for one of the houses at the monastery for seven years.

Since 2013 and until now Geshela has been the teacher at Jamyang Choling nunnery in Dharamshala and during this time has had the great fortune to receive a lot of empowerments, teachings and instructions of the pure nectar-like Dharma due to the incomparable kindness of His Holiness the Great 14th Dalai Lama and Tokden Rinpoche aswell as from 27 other virtuous masters from different sects within Tibetan buddhism.

On 21/04/2022 the members of Jamyang Choling nunnery held a democratic election and Geshela was chosen to become Abbot to which he graciously accepted their request. On 19/03/2022 the Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Department of Religion and Culture as well as Drepung Loseling Monastery and Drepung Loseling Abbot replied to the nunnery's application for Geshela to become Abbot all with their acceptance and congratulations.

On 29/06/2022 in a modest room within His Holinesses residence as newly appointed Abbot, Geshe la had the very fortunate opportunity of meeting with His Holiness Dalai Lama.
