I am Geshema Nyima Yangji Sherpa. I was born in 1976 into a Buddhist family in the village of Bigu, Nepal. It is a beautiful village in the Himalayan region.
I am the daughter of Mr. Sherab Dorje and Mrs. Nyima Dolma, and I have six siblings: one elder brother, two younger brothers, and three younger sisters.
Growing up in a village with a nunnery, I often saw many nuns and developed a deep admiration for their way of life. Over time, this admiration inspired a sincere aspiration to become a nun.
At the age of thirteen, with the permission of my parents, I ordained at Tashi Chime Gatsal Nunnery in my village. I studied there for six years, during which I learned to read and write Tibetan and memorized many prayer texts.
Since the nunnery did not offer studies in Buddhist philosophy, I developed a strong wish to pursue further education. On the advice of Geshe Lobsang Dawa-la in Dharamshala, I joined Jamyang Choling Institute in 2003 and began my formal studies in Buddhist philosophy.
I completed the seventeen-year curriculum covering the five major Buddhist philosophical texts Prajñāpāramitā, Madhyamaka, Abhidharma, Pramāṇa, and Vinaya. I entered the Geshema examinations in 2022 and successfully completed them in 2025.
In addition to my academic studies, I have served the institute in various roles, including kitchen manager and store manager. I also offer guidance and support to junior students in both their studies and personal development.
I feel deeply grateful for the opportunity to pursue these studies and remain committed to applying my knowledge in the practice of the Dharma and in serving and benefiting others.
