My Life as a Nun, My name is Thuptan Dolker. My mother’s name was Late Tsering Putit, and my father’s name was Late Tenzin Tsering. I am from Ladakh, Ullay village.
I have four sisters and one brother, and I am the youngest in my family. I attended school up to the 5th standard. In 1998, I became a nun at Rizdong Chulichan Nunnery, where I spent eight years. After that, I went to Dharamsala to continue my studies at Jamyang Chosling Nunnery. I spent one year learning the basics of the Tibetan language.Following this, I studied Drutda, Lorik, and Takrik for three years. I then studied Paramita (Pharchin) for six years, followed by Madhyamaka (Auma) for three years. I studied Abhidharmakosha (Dzod) for two years and Vinaya (Dulwa) for another two years. After that, I studied Tamanavartikakarika (Tsanma) for half a year. For the prestigious Geshema Degree, I restudied all the subjects together for four years. The Geshema program started in 2023 and was completed in 2026. I received my certificate on 26 October 2025.
In brief, I began my Buddhist studies in 2003 and completed the full course of Buddhist education in 2026. I still have one more year remaining for Sngak studies.
Becoming a nun has been the most meaningful journey of my life. From my early education to completing the full course of Buddhist studies, this path has taught me discipline, patience, compassion, and wisdom. The many years of study and practice shaped not only my knowledge but also my character and way of life.
As I complete my Geshema degree and continue with my remaining Sngak studies, I carry deep gratitude for my teachers, my nunneries, and all those who supported me throughout this journey. I remain committed to using what I have learned to benefit others and to continue walking the path of the Buddha with sincerity and devotion.
