I am Geshema Tenzin Dolkar, a resident of Stongday in Zanskar, Ladakh a land widely known for its deep faith and sincere practice of Buddhism.
I was born into a humble farming family, and my parents’ strong devotion to the Dharma greatly shaped my life and values.
In 2003, at the age of 16, I was admitted to Jamyang Choeling Nunnery. Since then, I have spent 23 years living, studying, and practicing there. I chose to become a nun after witnessing the hardships faced by women in society and feeling a deep wish to dedicate my life to spiritual practice and learning. That same year, I had the precious opportunity to receive my ordination from 14th Dalai Lama, whose blessings and teachings continue to guide my path.
Over the years, I devoted myself to the study of Buddhist philosophy and actively participated in monastic responsibilities. I tried my best to serve the monastery and to guide and support younger nuns in their studies and spiritual growth.
Inspired by senior nuns who earned the Geshema degree, I began preparing for it in 2021. After years of dedicated study, debate, and examinations, I successfully completed my Geshema degree in 2025 in the sacred land of Bodh Gaya, as part of the second batch of Geshemas.
I remain deeply grateful to my teachers, my family, and His Holiness the Dalai Lama for their blessings, guidance, and encouragement throughout my journey. I dedicate my achievement to them and to the spiritual community of Zanskar.
With sincere gratitude,
Geshema Tenzin Dolka
